PC air cooling heat sinks are the most basic and simplest form of add-on air cooling for PC. They consist of a base that mounts in contact with a heat load and some sort of heat-radiating shape, normally either fins or pins to increase surface area for heat transfer to the surrounding air.

Heat sinks offer the simplicity and reliability of a single-piece design and many offer the flexibility of multiple mounting options.
